After many months of searching, the ideal location became available in late 2013, and Mick & Sue O'Callaghan relocated from Motueka to Hanmer Springs to open their long awaited Decadent Fudge/gift shop on 20/12/13.

Situated on a busy corner and surrounded by other quality actvities and retailers, the new shop boosts large glass windows on two sides of the shop allowing plenty of light to enter the shop.

Offerring a wide range of gift ware and gourmet food lines, the main feature is the large fudge cabinet which attracts customers from all walks of life, age groups and countries. "It's amazing the number of different nationalities we have in the shop - some who have no idea of what 'fudge' is and this is their first experience of trying the popular sweet treat".

The key to their success is their 'secret' recipe which stands shoulders above many other fudges made in NZ. The O'Callaghans have made a health and ethical decision not to use Palm Oil in their fudge which is widely used in many fudges in NZ today. We pay a higher premium for cocoa butter, but we know our decerning customers appreciate this. Using ingredients widely available in most pantrys, we don't complicate our recipes with highly processed ingredients. Our fudge is made from scratch with good old fashioned ingredients that have been used by many top chefs/cooks before us. Our hugh data base of returning customers shows we must be doing something right.

While Mick is the main fudge maker, Sue has recently spent many months perfecting a healthy fudge alternative for diabetics and lactose intolerate customers. "We now sell a GF, Sugar free, dairy free and soy free fudge made from 100% Dark Chocolate and Coconut cream which is sweetened with Stevia. This is proving extremely popular and we are constantly sending this NZ wide as the word is spreading."

With traditional flavours like Russian, Dark Chocolate and Baileys, Mick loves to experiment with new flavours being released at least twice a month. Some of the seasonal flavours that you might see are Feijoa, Mango, White Christmas and recently Jelly Tip, Hokey Pokey or Turkish Delight. There is guaranteed to be a new flavour to try each time you visit.

Next time you are visiting Hanmer Springs, make The Decadent Fudge Shop a must visit to see what all the fuss is about. You'll be glad you did.
