Flavours Of NZ was opened in Dec 2013 when the owners of The Decadent Fudge Co where looking to open a fudge/gift shop to showcase their products. Mick and Sue O'Callaghan relocated from Motueka to Hanmer Springs to open the shop and to share their artisan fudges with the Canterbury people.
In August 2019, the shop was purchased by Sally Boot, a former employee who feel in love with the concept and fulfilled a life long dream of owning 'a sweet store'.
Sunshine Sally (as her friends affectionately call her) brings with her a long history of customer service, a love of Hanmer Springs and the same passion that the former owners had for the artisan fudges. The Decadent Fudge Co will continue to supply the store much to Sally's delight while the O'Callaghans will focus on building The Decadent Fudge Brand in other centres.
The key to their success is their 'secret' recipe which stands shoulders above many other fudges made in NZ. The Decadent Fudge Co has made a health and ethical decision not to use Palm Oil or other highly processed ingredients which are widely used in many fudges in NZ today. They pay a higher premium for cocoa butter, but they know their discerning customers appreciate this. "Our fudge is made from scratch with good old fashioned ingredients that have been used by many top chefs/cooks before us. Our huge data base of returning customers shows we must be doing something right."
While Mick is the main fudge maker, Sue has recently spent many months perfecting a healthy fudge alternative for diabetics, keto and GF customers. "This is proving extremely popular and we are constantly sending this NZ wide as the word is spreading."
With one of the largest selections of fudge flavours in NZ, there's guaranteed to be a favourite flavour just for you. Some of the seasonal flavours that you might see are Feijoa, Mango, White Christmas and recently Jelly Tip, Hokey Pokey or Licorice Allsorts.
Situated on a busy corner and surrounded by other quality activities and retailers, the shop boosts large glass windows on two sides of the shop allowing plenty of light to enter the shop.
Offering a wide range of gift ware and gourmet food lines, the main feature is the large fudge cabinet which attracts customers from all walks of life, age groups and countries. "It's amazing the number of different nationalities we have in the shop - some who have no idea of what 'fudge' is and this is their first experience of trying the popular sweet treat".
While the fudge is the main attraction, Flavours of NZ also stocks a wide range of affordable gift lines and ladies accessories including jewellery, scarves and bags.
Next time you are visiting Hanmer Springs, make Flavours Of NZ 'a must visit' to see what all the fuss is about. You'll be glad you did.
